How to Toast Nuts in the Oven

Roasted nuts are a healthy snack on their own, in trail mix, or as part of a main dish. Oven-toasting nuts is a simple culinary skill that can improve the flavor of a recipe. This video demonstrates how to toast nuts for all of your baking and cooking needs.

We recommend using the oven to toast large quantities of nuts and using whole, dense nuts like pecans, walnuts, or whole almonds. For sliced, slivered, or chopped nuts, the stovetop method is best, as they can burn quickly in the oven!

For toasting nuts at home, use your sense of smell to determine when to take them out of the oven; the nuts are done when they smell “toasty”.

Be careful not to cook for too long; overcooked nuts taste bitter.

Once the toasted nuts are completely cool, store them in an airtight container in the pantry or freezer (freezing helps prevent fatty acid oxidation).
